Philips Lighting Company's Marathon
(formerly Earth Light) Dimmable is a fully integrated
screw-based compact fluorescent lamp which dims to 10% when
operated on standard incandescent dimmers and sensors. The
23 watt Earth Light Dimmable is the same size as it's
non-dimming equivalent- opening up the advantages of compact
fluorescent lighting to the 200 million incandescent sockets
presently operating on standard dimmers. Philips' Marathon 3-Way is the first
integrated 3-way compact fluorescent that is a direct
replacement for the 50/100/150-watt incandescent. Slated for
distribution in late 1999, the 3-Way utilizes the same
innovative CFL technology first introduced by Philips more
than 17 years ago. Similar to other Marathon bulbs, the
3-Way is fitted with a medium screw base for use in a
standard incandescent 3-way fixture. This is a breakthrough
product in this category where the only high light output
options available by competitive lighting manufacturers have
been circular-shaped structures -- used with special
adapters, which create a ring of light on the
lampshade. Radiating soft, white light similar to
standard incandescent lamps and a color rendering index
(CRI) of 82, the 3-Way at a low setting will be
approximately 11 watts (equivalent to the output of the
50-watt setting of a 3-way incandescent), 25 watts at a
medium setting (100-watt setting), and 32 watts (150-watt
setting) at the highest setting. By using a quarter of the
electricity than an incandescent 3-way bulb, this newest CFL
lamp cuts the homeowner's electricity costs by approximately
75 percent. The Marathon 3-Way features an average
life of 10,000 hours (approximately 7 years of normal
residential use), compared to 750 hours for a standard
incandescent lamp. Philips Lighting:
